Pregnant spa: Can I go when I am pregnant?

Are you pregnant? If so, congratulations first and foremost! Your emotions are probably running high… and you may also feel tired, swollen and in pain. It’s normal!

You may be considering a trip to a spa to feel better, or you may even have been given this experience as a gift. But, like any mother-to-be, you will have certain doubts… Is it possible to go to a spa during pregnancy? Is it better to avoid it?

Good news: going to a spa while pregnant is more than possible. In fact, some of the treatments offered there are highly recommended for coping with pregnancy in the best possible way. Others, on the other hand, should be avoided, but without alarm.

At the Fitero Spa, you and your future baby are more than welcome. In this article we tell you how you can benefit from our thermal waters during your pregnancy, which services you can enjoy here and which you should leave for another occasion.

Why can you relax when you come to Balneario de Fitero?

Unfortunately, being pregnant sometimes means giving up certain pleasures, such as certain foods and activities. Fortunately, this is not the case with a spa, which is no problem. What’s more, mineral-medicinal waters can contribute enormously to improving both your physical and mental wellbeing.

However, swimming while pregnant in the first trimester in places like these is not entirely recommended, because at this stage of pregnancy the baby is at much greater risk. It is preferable to go to the spa when you are three months pregnant or more, although you can always consult your doctor if you have any doubts.

What you should choose carefully is the spa you visit, of course. If you come to Balneario de Fitero, all our staff will be on hand to advise you on the best treatments for your pregnancy and even offer you tailored therapies.

The properties of the water from our spring are very beneficial for the tough months of treatment. In addition, we have a medical area with professionals specialising in medical hydrology. You couldn’t be in better hands!

We especially recommend trying:

  • Our outdoor hydrothermal pool. With a very pleasant temperature (34-36ºC) and surrounded by unparalleled scenery, this pool is always wonderful, and even more so when you are expecting.
  • The Wellness circuit, perfect for de-stressing. Simply avoid using the jets at abdomen height.
  • Baths (general and bubble baths). Both the general bath and the bubble bath at the spa are suitable for pregnant women; simply adjust the temperature so that it is not too hot.
  • Our circular shower, where the water flows at a very moderate pressure. You will find it most pleasant!

What treatments can you have at our spa while pregnant?

We also offer a wide range of hydrothermal treatments at our spa, but which ones are recommended during pregnancy? Let’s take a look!

  • Foot footbath treatment. Many pregnant women suffer from varicose veins and circulation problems in their legs and feet, and this treatment is particularly recommended for alleviating this type of discomfort and improving circulation.
  • All our treatments for tired legs (pressure therapy, cold stockings and green mud) are ideal for restoring a feeling of lightness in the legs.
  • Enjoy a soothing massage. With pindas, geothermal, anti-stress or relaxation. You decide!

Spa treatments not recommended for pregnant women

So, what treatments are best avoided when pregnant at a spa?

In your condition, it is advisable not to use the thermal sauna. Its temperature is 45ºC, which could cause a pregnant woman’s blood pressure to drop.

It is also best to stay away from high-pressure jets, such as our general jet and lumbar jet. Otherwise, you can relax and enjoy yourself.

Benefits for your pregnancy

As you can see, hot springs during pregnancy can be really beneficial, as long as you know how to choose the right treatments. Among their many advantages, it is worth highlighting:

  • They help relieve back pain.
  • They reduce swelling in the legs and feet by reactivating blood circulation.
  • They are a source of mental wellbeing because they reduce stress, fatigue and, therefore, mood swings.

Still thinking about it? Whether you’re pregnant or not, don’t wait any longer and treat yourself to an experience at Balneario de Fitero. Do it for yourself and your baby, you’ve earned it!
